Michaela is a passionate singer with a deeply-rooted curiosity about music. She is a seasoned voice teacher, musical scholar, and versatile artist.
Biography:
Michaela Wright is a Mezzo-Soprano and voice teacher based in the Western Carolinas with deep roots in Central Florida. Her drive for advocacy-led performances has guided her to work with organizations such as Central Florida Vocal Arts, Boulanger Initiative, and PROTESTRA. She is currently the alto staff singer at First Presbyterian Church in Asheville.
She is proud to have performed with companies including Opera Orlando, City Lyric Opera, Opera del Sol, Moon River Opera, Lyric Theatre Illinois, Opera Steamboat, Sinfonia da Camara, Jacksonville Masterworks Chorale, and Orlando Sings. She has also had the privilege of performing with orchestras such as The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, The Prague National Theatre Orchestra, The Solaria Players, The Villages Philharmonic, and The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.
Some of her favorite engagements include Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice,) Hansel (Hansel and Gretel,) Igor Stravinsky (No. 5 world premier,) Alto Soloist (Handel’s Messiah,) The Fox (Cunning Little Vixen,) Bianca (The Rape of Lucretia,) Alto Soloist (Mozart Requiem,) Mycelia (Sensorium Ex Workshop, Beth Morrison Project,) Baseball: A Musical Love Letter, and La Boheme (directed by Nathan Gunn.)
Over the past decade, Michaela has been involved with numerous New Music festivals including The ARC Project, All Score Urbana’s Community of Song, New Music Mosaic, and New England Conservatory's Virtual Composition Seminar Concert. She has premiered several works including “Internal Monologs” by Jacksonville-based composer, Bob Moore, “I Taste a Liquor Never Brewed” by Brooks Clarke, “Appalachian Lament” by Caleb Wiggins, “Kingdom by the Sea” by Tiffany Adams, “Float” by Serena Ryan, and “Assertion” by Pepijn Streng. In addition to her work in classical music, Michaela has much experience performing musical theater. She has most recently been seen as Sarah in Company, Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Rebecca in Weird Romance, and Ginger in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Michaela is an experienced and gifted educator as well. She has worked as a Teaching Artist for A Noteworthy Music Studio and Central Florida Vocal Arts, and she currently maintains a private all-level voice and beginner piano studio. During her studies in Illinois, she held a graduate teaching assistantship teaching private voice through the Unit One Music Program. Wright has spent much of her professional career teaching voice, piano, and theatre. She was pleased to complete her 4th year with CFVA’s Summer Institute, direct a “Theater for All” After-school camp in collaboration with Camp Boggy Creek and CFC Arts, and work with Wortham Arts as a Teaching Assistant. Recently, she has music directed several shows at Asheville Community Theatre and is active in teaching music there year-round.
